Catfish by Mark Applebaum

If you are not familiar with Mark Applebaum, spend some time on Google and YouTube and watch some of his videos. He is an amazing composer/performer and writes a lot of interesting and thought-provoking works for all kinds of instruments and non-instruments. Today’s video is a piece he wrote for percussion trio called Catfish. This piece is pretty traditional as far as percussion trios go. He uses standard notation and asks the performers to find three instruments (high, medium and low).

Have you played any of Mark’s works? Which ones? Please leave a comment and let us know.

I also suggest that you check out this Tedx Video from a presentation Dr. Applebaum gave at Stanford.
